I recently did a post on what RSS reader I use, but I stumbled across a cool program that turns your RSS feed into a news ticker. Sounds cool right?
Setup: Well first off you have export your RSS feed using the OPML format. This is fairly easy to find after some digging in the settings of your current RSS reader. Then set which part of the screen you want it to run, and you’re done.
Usability: At first, you will have a lot of fun just watching it scroll through the latest news, but after a while you kind of forget it is there. Also, at times, the feed often gets annoying and in the way of the rest of your programs. It is better used with a really big or multiple monitors.
Does It Work? Well it does do what it is supposed to. All of the recent news from your feeds will be scrolling across of your screen. However, it doesn’t always pull the most recent posts and I sometimes saw posts from weeks before scrolling across the screen.
I also found that I needed to visit my RSS reader to really sit down and read the newest posts. then ended up uninstalling it because I just couldn’t use it the way I expected to.
The Verdict: Snackr is a very cool program that you can use for your RSS feeds. It is very nice to have going while you are doing something else.
You can download Snackr here.
