Samsung 2433BW Review

in Hardware Reviews, Monitors

After months of dancing around the idea of buying a new monitor, I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and get one. I decided on the Samsung 2433BW for many reasons including the great deal and the impressive line of specifications that make it a great monitor.

The Look: This monitor looks stunning, and yes I just said that about a monitor. It has a matte finish LCD screen surrounded by a piano black plastic border.

At the bottom is a clear acrylic bar that adds a very subtle but good looking touch to the rest of the display. In the middle of that bar is a seductive, glowing blue light that well, seduces you (if you stare at it long enough). You really have to sit back and enjoy the look of this monitor (almost like you do a very good looking woman) before your fingerprints ruin the entire look forever.

Connections: While this does not include HDMI (sucks doesn’t it?), it does include the default VGA and DVI connections to connect your monitors to. While I would like to see an HDMI, it works so I’m not complaining.

The Specs: Now I don’t want to get all technical here so this is a list of the most important specs if you even care:

  • 24″ screen size
  • 1900 x 1200 Resolution
  • 20,000:1 Dynamic contrast resolution
  • 16:10 Aspect ratio

If you really need to know any of the other features Google (or Bing) the thing (but read the rest of the review first).

Performance: My favorite feature is the preset brightness settings. that come preinstalled and you can find in the menu. At first, you get the monitor set on the “Gaming” brightness which makes your eyes feel as though they are trying to squeeze themselves right out of your noggin’.

But after messing around in the menus, I found these presets and changed it to the “Text” brightness which was a little easier on the eyes.

When gaming though I do find that the monitor performs very well. There is no ghosting effects and I quite liked the quality of the falling enemies in a pool of blood on the full 24″ screen.

Why You Need To Upgrade: I never believed that a new monitor would actually make a huge difference in my productivity. But, guess what, it did! I know I sound like all of the other “stunned” reviewers that say this, but it’s true. If you are contemplating getting a new monitor, go ahead and get it. Prices at this point are at an all time low so now there is no excuse not to.

The Verdict: The new monitor does everything I need it to do, but in a very stunning and hot way. Everyday use has allowed me to get more done at once without me having to dig through a mountain of windows to try and find the right one. Seriously go buy it! It gives you an excuse to now run dual monitors now (but thats a post for the future).

My new setup is the Samsung as my primary monitor with my old 19″ Gateway as a secondary. Then I also have a macbook running Synergy so I can use one mouse and keyboard.
