My RSS Mac Reader NetNewsWire

As a technology blogger, I use RSS as my source for all of my news relate posts. For my RSS reader I use NetNewsWire which unfortunatly is Mac only but is the best reader I’ve found so far.

The interface in which you navigate through the different updates is pretty self-explanatory. You have a list of updates at the top of the screen and the previews of the posts at the bottom. As you scroll through you can flag certain items you like or want to go back to later.

But what really sets the NetNewsWire reader apart from the rest of the readers is the built in browser. If you come across an article that you would like to read more about or leave a comment, you can press the right arrows key and it launches the browser. You can easily do all you need to do there that you would need to do in a browser, but if you want to see it in your default browser, all you have to do is right click and select “Open in default browser.”

Organization is very simple and is very handy for getting your reading in efficiently. Whenever you launch a new article into the browser, a new tab is opened. The first tab is always your reader interface and the following tabs can be any series of articles that you have opened.

The reason I prefer this program over something like Google Reader is the use of the built-in-browser, and the ability to set aside articles that you would like to reader but not until later. This efficiency allows you to skim over all of your unread articles and pick out the ones you would like to read and pull those out without distracting you from the task at hand.

If you are looking for a lightweight, feature full RSSĀ  reader, I would highly recommend NetNewsWire.
